Tri Camp a Huge Success

Junior tennis players from Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta gather for Tri Camp in Saskatoon, SK.
    Wed Mar 24, 2010

Winnipeg, MB (TM) – Twenty-three keen tennis players aged 8 to 11 years of age took over the Lakewood Tennis Center in Saskatoon on March 20th and 21st to be apart of a tri-provincial tennis development camp. Junior tennis players from Manitoba were joined by those from Saskatchewan and Alberta.

Five coaches lead by Ryan Schroffel from Alberta put the young future tennis stars through some tough tennis drills and game play situations. Players were also given the opportunity to show their footwork skills to Shane Schwanbeck from the USA who trained the kids in the physical component of the camp.

Saturday evening over 50 players, parents and coaches enjoyed a friendly relaxing meal at a local restaurant. This was a great experience as many kids had never been on a tennis road trip before.

On the second camp day coaches assigned players to 4 different teams that competed in a team tennis format. It was exciting to see the level of competition and how much effort the kids displayed. With such positive feedback the group is planning another tri-provincial camp for later this year.

Igal Mostkov was recently awarded the CTV Sports Star of the Week.
    Tue Mar 23, 2010

Winnipeg, MB (TM) – Currently in the boy’s top junior tennis ranking position for Manitoba, Igal Mostkov was recently named CTV Sports Star on March 16th. The recognition follows Igal’s impressive performance at the Kids Dental Junior Tennis Championships where he was able to outlast number 2 seed Muzeen Ismath in a tough three set final to capture the title.

Immigrating to Manitoba from Israel, Igal prides himself on being a hard worker. He trains six days a week at the Winnipeg Winter Club on improving his tennis game. Igal believes his forehand is his biggest weapon and aspires to turn pro or accept a scholarship to a U.S. college so he can study and play tennis after his junior tennis days are completed.

The next test for Igal will be coming up in a couple weeks when he travels to Toronto for the Rogers Junior National Championships for under 18-year-olds. Other Manitoba juniors joining him will be Muzeen Ismath, Alan Gardner and Evann Waschuk.
