Kids Dental Tennis Fest – Free Event at Sargent Park
Tennis Manitoba, with the great
support of Kids Dental, is hosting a Tennis Fest
on Saturday, June 6th at the Sargent Park Tennis
Center. This is a free event for children ages
6-12 and the first 500 children in attendance

New tennis program a smashing success
Rob Langan has the advantage in
his favour as he hopes to rally Winnipeg youth
into picking up the sport of tennis. The head
pro at the Winnipeg Lawn and Tennis Club was
recently provided with $2,500 in funding from
Tennis Canada to promote the sport in south
Winnipeg as part of the Building Tennis

Fridrik Sisters Victorious at Big Sand Junior Classic
Emily Fridrik captured the U16
girls singles championship at the Big Sand
Junior Classic held at Taylor Tennis. Not to be
outdone, her older sister Erika took home the

Connell Wins Two Events at LAZBOY Senior Open
Jared Connell captured the
Men’s 30+ Singles and Doubles events at the
LAZBOY Senior Open hosted by the Winnipeg Winter
Club. Connell defeated Trevor Borland to earn
the singles victory and then teamed up with Hart
Pollack for the doubles championship. More details
Connell recognized with Tennis Canada Excellence Award
Jared Connell received a 2008
Tennis Canada Coaching Excellence Award for the
very significant role he played in the success
of National Wheelchair Champion, Lee Carter.
Jared not only coached his star pupil to a
National title, but also helped Lee achieve his
goal of qualifying for the 2008 Paralympics in

Lee Carter has been named
Wheelchair Tennis Athlete of the Year by Tennis
Canada. The Winnipegger finished the 2008
competitive season ranked No. 17 in singles play
