Waschuk Wins Two Titles at Kids Dental Junior Open

Evann Waschuk earned a hard-fought 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 victory in the U18 Girls Singles final and then followed it up by taking home the U16 Girls Singles title at the Kids Dental Junior Open.

Winnipeg Ladies Win Division at Philpott Invitational in Toronto

Team Winnipeg captured their division at the 25th Annual Philpott Invitational Ladies Charity Tennis Tournament. This annual event is held in Toronto each January. The Philpott Tournament brings together women who have the passion for tennis and charity, with a goal of helping to support access to tennis for inner city children.

$500M Budget for Building in Sport and Recreation

The 2009 Federal Budget takes direct aim at the long standing infrastructure deficit in sport and recreation with a new, dedicated $500 million fund, to be expended in the next 2 years, to renew and build facilities in our communities. With specific references to the 1967 Centennial year building boom, the budget highlights in detail the need for “hockey arenas, soccer fields, tennis and basketball courts, and swimming pools” as examples for upgrading, renewal and building through this nationally delivered initiative.
