David Kives (pictured above) of
Winnipeg is the 2008 recipient of the Erica Gilbert
Off-Court Official Award as selected by Tennis Canada.
The award recognizes the outstanding performance
of an off-court official (referee, chief of officials,
trainer-evaluator). David’s outstanding work as
a referee comes in addition to his consistently
high level of performance as a line umpire at the
Rogers Cup in Montreal and Toronto, and several
Davis Cup ties across the country. More details

Manitoba Board of Directors
Tennis Manitoba would like to extend
a special welcome to Bill Rannard and Lee Carter,
the newest members of the Tennis Manitoba Board.
Each year the association looks to add new members
to its board as it conducts business amongst its
various committees, which include Community Development,
Competitive Structure, High Performance and Resource

Junior Nationals Qualification
Manitoba’s top junior
players will be representing the
province at the Indoor Junior Nationals
in late March and early April. The final
chance to earn qualification points will
be at the 2009 Kids Dental Junior Open,
being held February 12-15 at the
Winnipeg Winter Club. More

Young Players Identified at Tennis Camp
A total of 29 kids in the
U8 – U12 age groups attended an identification
camp at Taylor Tennis on January 18th. The
purpose of the camp was to identify juniors
who are able to adapt to the technical and
physical challenges required to play tennis.

Tennis Workshop for Teachers
Tennis Canada is offering
a "how to play in school" workshop for teachers
on March 20th. Workshop attendees will get
3 hours of instruction and materials to
help setup tennis programs for elementary
schools. More
