Winnipeg, MB (TM) – Tennis Manitoba’s Annual General Meeting is scheduled for Saturday, November 15th at the Winnipeg Winter Club at 10:00am. Club delegates are encouraged to register with Tennis Manitoba to confirm their attendance.

Year-end financial reports and committee reports will be presented and the 2008/09 Board of Directors will be elected.

Winnipeg, MB (TM) – The 2008 Tennis Manitoba Senior Tour season came to an end at the conclusion of the Manitoba Indoor Tennis Championships held at Taylor Tennis September 2-7. Players accumulated points throughout the season at the following Senior Tour events:

The 2008 Tennis Manitoba Senior Tour point leaders will be honored when the tennis community gathers for the 3rd annual Tennis Manitoba Awards Banquet on Wednesday, November 26th at the Winnipeg Winter Club. They will be joined by the 2008 Tennis Manitoba Junior Tour point leaders and Open Tour point leaders.

Proceeds from this year’s banquet will go to support junior tennis development in Manitoba. Funds will go towards junior competition travel expenses and training camps, as well as development programs for kids under the age of 12 years. Those wishing to support the Tennis Manitoba Awards Banquet can do so by donating gifts for the live and silent actions, or by becoming an event sponsor. Sponsors contributions will be acknowledged at the event and included in the event program, Tennis Manitoba web site and monthly newsletters. Winnipeg, MB (TM) – If you are passionate about tennis, have a knack for writing and are willing to volunteer some of your time, then we could use your help. Tennis Manitoba is looking for volunteer writers to help create newsletter articles, web content, press releases, fliers, brochures and a variety of promotional materials to help support the growth of tennis in Manitoba. Ongoing projects might include: articles to be published in a quarterly tennis magazine, Manitoba Tennis Hall of Fame biographies, various recognition articles, grant applications, collateral.

We are looking for people with the ability to respond to emails and meet realistic deadlines. The position requires strong written communication skills and organizational skills. This is also a great opportunity for local college and high school students who want to direct their studies and careers towards the literary arts. You need the practice and Tennis Manitoba needs your skills, so this is your chance to do some real reporting!

To complete the family sweep, younger sister Kylie was able to hold on to both the junior girls U12 and U14 points race, needing the final Junior Tour match of the season to fend off her nearest challenger.

On the boys side, Sean Bailey was able to establish himself as the top junior boy in the province while new comer Igal Mostkov made an immediate impact in the U16 points race. Both Jeremy Gunn and Kevin Kylar added some drama in their age categories, taking the points lead after the final Junior Tour tournament recently held at Glendale Golf & Country Club.

During the 8 tournaments there were 88 events run with a total of 373 player registrations – an 82% growth over the 2007 season.

Winnipeg, MB (TM) – The Glendale Golf & Country Club played host to the final Junior Tour stop of 2008, the Auto Haus Volkswagen Fall Junior Classic, and it was Glendale member Kevin Kylar who came away the big winner. Kylar took home the U14, U16 and U18 Boys Singles Championships at his home club. By defeating Eagan Peters to capture the U14 title, Kylar earned enough points to overtake Shane Nicholls for the Points Championship in that category for the 2008 season.

Kylie Waschuk won a very tight match with Anika Campeau to win the U14 Girls Singles Championship.  The win earned Waschuk enough points to hold off Campeau for the 2008 Tennis Manitoba Junior Tour points championship in the U14 Girls Singles category.
