Junior Tour Update

Junior Open Champions Crowned

The top junior players in the province competed this past week in the Manitoba Junior Open for the right to be called Provincial Champion. Evann Waschuk managed to take home two titles, capturing the U16 and U18 Girls Singles Championships. Her younger sister Kylie won the U12 Girls Singles title, but was denied the U14 crown after losing a 3 hour and 20 minute battle with Anika Campeau in the final of that event.

Sean Bailey and Igal Mostkov engaged in a slugfest in the U18 Boys Singles Championship, with Bailey prevailing in 2 hard fought sets. Mostkov bounced back to take home the U16 Boys Singles title after a tight match with Muzeen Ismath. A special thanks to Ty Dillelo for serving as a ball boy for the U16 Boys final.

Other winners included Julia Kroft in the U12 Girls category, Anika Campeau in the U14 Girls event, Kylie Waschuk in the U16 Girls draw and Clarissa Chen in the U18 Girls event. Michael Corrigan took home the U12 Boys title and Kevin Kylar was victorious in the U14 Boys draw.

933 Consecutive Shots!

It took a lot of concentration, not to mention some skill in mathematics. Kylie Waschuk and Daniella Silva exchanged shots from the baseline at the Sargent Park Tennis Center during the junior development camp with Tennis Canada coach Bob Brett on June 5th. It seemed like just another drill, although each pair of players was told to count the number of consecutive shots hit back and forth with their partner. By the time the girls were finished, they had hit 933 consecutive shots!
