Winnipeg, MB (TM) – James Ioanidis,
winner of 5 Manitoba Open Men’s Singles titles, will
be inducted into the Manitoba Tennis Hall of Fame on
Thursday, October 4th at the Sun Center at Canad Inns
Stadium in conjunction with the Tennis Manitoba Awards
Banquet presented by CIBC Wood Gundy.
Ioanidis was one of only two Manitobans ever selected
by Tennis Canada for the Davis Cup trials. He also reached
the second round of the Canadian Tennis Championships
in 1964 where he battled one of the greatest tennis
players of all time, Roy Emerson of Australia. He gave
Emerson all he could handle, falling 8-6, 6-3, 6-3.

The Hall of Fame inductions will be the highlight of
the 2007 Tennis Manitoba Awards Banquet. Prior to the
banquet spectators are invited to Taylor Tennis for
a Doubles Exhibition featuring former ATP Tour star
and Wimbledon semi-finalist, David Wheaton. Entry for
the doubles match is free with your Awards Banquet ticket,
which can be purchased for $75 by contacting Tennis
Manitoba at 925-5660. Those interested in the Doubles
Exhibition only can purchase tickets for $10.
