Are you thinking Arby's?

“Tennis Manitoba did more to bring tennis to the forefront of sports than anything done in the past! Thank you for supporting Art. The 2006 Awards Banquet was a big success and I thank you.”

Hall of Fame welcomes new members at Awards Banquet

Tennis Manitoba will be adding three people into the Manitoba Tennis Hall of Fame players category. The Hall of Fame inductions will take place Thursday, October 4th at the Sun Center at Canad Inns Stadium in conjunction with the Tennis Manitoba Awards Banquet presented by CIBC Wood Gundy.

Eleanor O’Gorman

Eleanor O’Gorman

Eleanor developed a love for tennis at a young age, thanks in large part to the mentoring and encouragement from her first coach, Lloyd Borland. She represented Manitoba at several Junior National Championships, won a Silver Medal at the Canada Summer Games in 1969 and became a 6 time champion of the Manitoba Open Women’s Singles event.

James A. Ioanidis

James A. Ioanidis

James was one of only two Manitobans ever selected by Tennis Canada for the Davis Cup trials. He also reached the second round of the Canadian Tennis Championships in 1964 where he battled one of the greatest tennis players of all time, Roy Emerson of Australia. He gave Emerson all he could handle, falling 8-6, 6-3, 6-3.

Hilda Lewis

Hilda Lewis

Hilda was the first dominant player in the province of Manitoba, asserting herself as the woman to beat in the 1920s. She still holds the record for the most Women’s Singles titles at the Manitoba Open Tennis Championships. She won the tournament 9 times, including a streak of seven years from 1920-1926.
