David
Wheaton Confirmed as Keynote Speaker for Awards
Banquet
When your
tennis resume includes wins over Andre Agassi, Jimmy
Connors, Stefan Edberg, Ivan Lendl, Jim Courier,
Michael Chang and Michael Stich, you know you have
had a fantastic career! David Wheaton lived his
dream, as he traveled the world playing the biggest
tournaments against the top players. He reached
a career high of #12 in 1991, the same year he reached
the semi-finals at Wimbledon and won the Grand Slam
Cup.
Tennis Manitoba is pleased to announce that David
Wheaton will be coming to Winnipeg this fall as
the keynote speaker for the Awards Banquet and Hall
of Fame Dinner, presented by CIBC Wood Gundy. David
will share his knowledge and experience that he
gained after many years in the sport and will no
doubt inspire members of our tennis community to
work hard in pursuit of their goals.
The Awards Banquet and Hall of Fame Dinner will
be held on Thursday, October 4th at the Sun Center
at Canad Inns Stadium. The tennis community will
gather to recognize the achievements of the province’s
top players and volunteers. In addition, the induction
ceremony for the Tennis Manitoba Hall of Fame will
take place in conjunction with the Awards Banquet
to honor longtime contributors to the sport in Manitoba.
Tickets for the Awards Banquet are $75 each and
a tax receipt will be provided by Tennis Canada
for a portion of the ticket price. Stay tuned for
further news regarding the Awards Banquet in the
weeks ahead.

ITF launches effort to push tennis globally
The
International Tennis Federation, backed by
governing bodies on the recreational and pro
sides of the sport, have launched "Tennis...Play
and Stay" to attract new players and hook them.
The unique approach scales the game to starter
players so they can achieve success quickly. A
smaller court, lighter balls and different sized
racquets are appropriated for the size or age of
the new player.
