DeVriendt, Paskvalin Headline List of Points Leaders

The final point standings for the past year have been determined in the Open, 4.5 and 3.5 events. The leaders in each of the singles categories will receive special recognition at 2006 Tennis Manitoba Awards Banquet presented by CIBC Wood Gundy on Thursday, October 5th at the Canad Inns Polo Park.

Doug DeVriendt of the Glendale Golf & Country Club and Anita Paskvalin of the Winnipeg Winter Club have captured the Men’s and Women’s Open titles, respectively. DeVriendt had another banner year, winning 6 of a possible 7 tournaments. He never lost a single set to a player from Manitoba, with his lone tournament defeat coming at the hands of Alex Gravina of Toronto, who beat Doug at the Manitoba Open for the second consecutive year.

Paskvalin accumulated the most points in the Women’s Open Singles category on the strength of her tournament victory at the Tuxedo Open and runner-up finishes at the Winnipeg Indoor Championships at the Winter Club, the Clay Court Championships at Taylor Tennis and the Manitoba Indoor Championships at Taylor.
