Manitoba Juniors Shine in Saskatoon

It was a banner effort for Manitoba’s junior tennis players at the recent Prairie Regionals, as they captured 18 of a possible 24 spots for the upcoming Indoor Junior Nationals.

Daniella Silva and Anita Paskvalin led the way for Manitoba, with each earning berths to the Nationals in two age groups. Silva will be heading to the U12 and U14 National Championships, while Paskvalin will be competing in both the U16 and U18 National Championships.

The following Manitobans were victorious in Saskatoon and will enter the Nationals as the top ranked player in the Prairie Region in their age group: Evann Waschuk – U14 Girls, Anita Paskvalin – U16 Girls, Kevin Kylar – U12 Boys and Chad LaCap – U14 Boys.

LaCaps and Waschuk Earn Two Titles at Winter Club

The LaCaps had to make more room on the mantle after Sean and Chad captured singles titles at the Winnipeg Winter Club Junior Open. Sean won the U18 Boys Singles Championship while Chad took the U16 Boys event. The brothers put the icing on the cake when they teamed up to win the U18 Boys Doubles title.

Evann Waschuk was also a double winner at the Winter Club, after she took home the U14 Girls Singles and U14 Girls Doubles Championships. Evann defeated her doubles partner, Erika Fridrik, for the singles crown, and then joined forces with Erika to claim the doubles title.

Arby’s Serves up another Winner

Gifts for the children, plenty of smiling faces and a great lunch at Arby’s. That was the order of the day at the wind-up of the Arby’s Tennis Program, organized by Bill Serbin. After ten weeks of tennis lessons and hours of fun, the youngsters from the Rossbrook House enjoyed a delicious meal courtesy of Grant Tymchuk and his staff at the Arby’s on Regent. Grant topped it off with a gift for each child and tickets to the New Year’s Eve Moose Game at the MTS Center.

Tennis Manitoba would like to thank Leonard Asper for his generous support of this program and providing the children with a great opportunity to be exposed to tennis. The program was very successful and thoroughly enjoyed by all of the participants. Everyone is looking forward to next year.
