Indoor Junior National Qualifying Tournament

    Winnipeg, MB (TM) – The qualifying tournament for the 2006 Indoor Junior Nationals for juniors living in Manitoba and Saskatchewan will be held in Saskatoon during February 24-26, 2006. The top 4 boys and top 4 girls in each of the U14, U16 and U18 age groups at this qualifying tournament will represent the Prairie Region at the 2006 Indoor Junior Nationals.

Sport Legacy Trust Grant Available

Volunteer Opportunities with Team Manitoba

    Winnipeg, MB (SM) – Sport Manitoba is seeking energetic and experienced individuals to serve as volunteer Mission Staff members for the 2007 Canada Winter Games and 2007 Western Canada Summer Games. As a member of Team Manitoba, you will be making a significant contribution to the sport development system in Manitoba by playing a significant leadership role in helping Manitoba athletes prepare for two of Canada's premier multi-sport events.

The 2007 Canada Winter Games will be held in Whitehorse, Yukon from February 24th to March 10th, 2007.

The 2007 Western Canada Summer Games will be held in Strathcona County, Alberta from August 3rd to 11th, 2007.

Both are multi-sport competitions with participation of some of Canada's finest young athletes from their respective province and territory.

Mission Staff work to ensure that all aspects of Team Manitoba's preparations, including athlete services, transportation and logistics, uniforms, registration and sport technical requirements, are in place for successful Games. Mission Staff will serve as Team Manitoba's liaison with individual sport teams working directly with coaches and managers. Mission Staff will be required to maintain ongoing communication with their sport assignment and attend team practices, competitions and meetings leading up to the Games. Attendance at monthly Mission Staff meetings and support of special events projects is also required. In undertaking their duties, Mission Staff will be supported by skilled and professional staff from Sport Manitoba.

As Mission Staff positions are volunteer positions there is no remuneration. Travel to and from the Games, accommodations and meal allowances are provided by Team Manitoba.

Minimum Requirements:
  • A commitment to be at the Games for their entire duration - from February 23rd to March 10th, 2007 for the Canada Winter Games; from August 2nd to 11th, 2007 for the Western Canada Summer Games.

  • A good working knowledge and understanding of sport and sport technical matters gained from experience on previous provincial missions or previous experience working in the sport community in the delivery of sport events of a provincial or national nature.

Required Skills:

  • Thorough knowledge of the amateur sport delivery system in Manitoba;

  • Interest in and enthusiasm for working in a fast-paced multi-sport environment;

  • Ability to operate independently and in a team atmosphere;

  • Willingness to perform functions and duties outside of your sport assignment;

  • Strong communication and administration skills;

  • Strong interpersonal skills and a willingness to provide excellent service;

  • A high level of discretion and judgment.

High Performance Information Session

    Winnipeg, MB (TM) – Tennis Manitoba invites coaches and parents of junior players to a meeting to discuss changes Sport Manitoba has recently made in the way Provincial Sport Associations apply for program funding. Sport Manitoba has just established annual Provincial Team and Canada Games grants for sports that demonstrate a commitment to long-term planning and development of high performance programs.

Tennis Manitoba now begins its 4-year cycle to prepare for the 2009 Canada Summer Games. In preparation for those Games, Tennis Manitoba will be using the 2007 Western Canada Summer Games in Edmonton as a stepping stone.

Please join us on Friday, October 14th at 6:30pm at Sport Manitoba (200 Main Street, Winnipeg, MB) as we discuss several aspects of the Provincial Team and Canada Games programs.
