Canada Games Team Earns 6th Place Finish

Team Manitoba finished 6th at the 2005 Canada Summer Games, after losing a close tie with Nova Scotia. Three of the six matches in the tie went to a super-tiebreaker, but unfortunately it was not to be for Team ‘Toba.

After struggling to a 1 and 3 record in round-robin action, Manitoba defeated New Brunswick 4 matches to 3, winning the deciding mixed doubles match in convincing fashion. That win propelled the team into the 5th/6th playoff with their rivals from the east coast.

Manitoba was represented by Sean LaCap, Alex Lesiuk, Matt Luczynski, Matt Younger, Alexa Zayac, Anita Paskvalin, Erica Chen and Jaime Peterson. Jared Connell was Head Coach and Erin Bodnarchuk was Team Manager.

The 2005 U12 Outdoor Junior Nationals were held recently in Mont Tremblant, Quebec at the Gray Rocks Club and 9 Manitobans were part of the field of 64 athletes competing for National supremacy.

The team, coached by George Kylar, consisted of Daniella Silva, Jessica Silva, Jade Kirstein, Maya Kirstein, Evann Waschuk, Kevin Kylar, Will McPherson, Alex Minuk and Chad LaCap. The level of competition was very high, but the team members fought extremely hard and came up with some good results. The top finisher from Manitoba was Chad LaCap, who earned 5th place after losing a tough three set match in the quarter-finals.
