Junior
League
Tennis Manitoba is promoting the development of a junior
league that will be made up of players from multiple
clubs, ages and abilities. The Junior Tennis League provides an
opportunity for juniors with limited tournament
experience to play in a team environment that
includes both singles and doubles play. It's an
exciting way for juniors to get introduced to
competitive tennis while learning in a supportive
and friendly environment.
The
initial session is targeted for players 14 years of
age or under that are not members of the
Tennis
Manitoba Provincial Team, with plans to expand
to multiple clubs and divisions that will
accommodate more competitive players during the outdoor
season.
Tennis Manitoba, along with
Taylor Tennis
and the Winnipeg
Winter Club, launched the Topo Gigio Junior
Tennis League with the initial winter session starting on
February 12, 2006.
League format:
-
8
teams, with 3 players per team plus spares
-
age eligibility of 14 years of age or under (Tennis
Manitoba Provincial Team members are not
eligible, players need not be members of Taylor
Tennis or Winnipeg Winter Club)
-
team match to be made up of singles and doubles
sets, no ad scoring, team match to take up to 3
hours on 1 court
-
league starts February 12th, for 7 weeks (1
match/week) of regular play to be followed by 2
weeks of playoffs
-
matches will be scheduled on Sundays 4 - 7 pm at
either Taylor
Tennis or
Winnipeg Winter Club
-
fees per league player to be $110
(i.e. $12/match x 9 weeks, to be paid in advance
with no charge for spares).

Registration for the 2006 Winter Session is now
closed. Tennis Manitoba is accepting
names of those that wish to be added to the spares list, as well as those that would like
information on the next session once the
registration forms are available.
