    Winnipeg, MB (TM) – Tennis Manitoba event details are available on a new online calendar that uses Google technology. Web site visitors now have the ability to quickly add events to their own Google calendars. Reminders can be setup so you don't miss important registration deadlines.

Getting LinkedIn to tennis in Manitoba

    Winnipeg, MB (TM) – Tennis Manitoba has joined the world of social networking with the creation of a LinkedIn group for tennis enthusiasts in Manitoba.

You can stay in touch with the tennis community by participating in online discussions or receive notifications when those you wish to “follow” contribute to the site. There are even subgroups for those that wish to learn about playing college tennis, volunteer for the committee that sanctions Tennis Manitoba’s tournaments and leagues, or promote their own business offerings.

LinkedIn is a fast growing professional network with over 55 million members and thousands of common interest groups. Those new to LinkedIn will need to create a profile, which at a minimum are your email address and a password.

After joining the Tennis Manitoba LinkedIn group you are able to set your “Digest Email” option which allows you to receive updates by e-mail from the group or subgroups.

There are currently more than 50 members and over 30 discussion topics already posted on the new group. Recent discussion posts include:

  • Prairie Qualifier for 2010 Rogers Junior National Championships
  • Juump test drive
  • TSN/TSN2's 2010 Tennis broadcast schedule
  • Haiti earthquake felt here in Manitoba
  • Winnipeg Indoor Open 2009
  • Changes to tournaments in 2010.

Prairie Qualifier for 2010 Rogers Junior National Championships

Winnipeg, MB (TM) – Junior tennis players from Manitoba and Saskatchewan will compete at the 2010 Indoor Prairie Regional Qualifier being held March 5-7 in Saskatoon for the right to participate in the Rogers Junior National Championships that take place late March and early April. The prairie region will send up to 3 boys and 3 girls in each age group (Under 12, U14, U16 and U18's) to compete against Canada’s best juniors.

Top junior players participating in the Tennis Manitoba Junior Tour have the opportunity to represent Manitoba at the up-coming regional tournament. Each draw at the prairie qualifier will consist of up to 6 players, with 3 spots being given to each province. Manitoba juniors are selected based on their Tennis Manitoba Junior Tour points following the Kids Dental Junior Open being held February 3-7 at the Winnipeg Winter Club.

The indoor 2010 Rogers Junior National Championships will be held as follows:

    U12 Rogers Junior National Championships
    March 27 - April 2 in Calgary, AB

    U16 Rogers Junior National Championships
    March 27 - April 3 in Laval, QC

    U14 Rogers Junior National Championships
    April 4-9 in Edmonton, AB

    U18 Rogers Junior National Championships
    April 5-10 in Markham, ON.

Rogers Rookie Tour kicks off 2010 Manitoba Tournament Schedule

Winnipeg, MB (TM) – The 2010 Tennis Manitoba tournament schedule kicks off with the Rogers Rookie Tour event being held this Sunday, January 24th at the Winnipeg Winter Club.

The mission of the Rogers Rookie Tour is to create a positive, fun, entry-level competition opportunity for starter junior tennis players. In 2010 there are 19 events currently scheduled on the Rogers Rookie Tour that will take place in various locations across Manitoba.

Those that wish to participate in the Rogers Rookie tour even this Sunday can register with Robert Kennedy (phone: 297-4020 or email: rfk@canada.com). Half court and 3/4 court play will take place 8:00 to 9:30 a.m., followed by full court progressive tennis (played with green dot balls) and full court play at 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Players are placed in a round robin and participate in timed matches. The entry fee is $20. All participants get a T-shirt, slingbag and either a sweatband or towel.

Nominate. Recognize. Celebrate!

Winnipeg, MB (Sport Manitoba) – Who are the stars in your sport? Let us know by nominating them for the Sport Manitoba Awards!

Nominate someone within your organization that has shown outstanding achievement and has excelled above the rest. Put your organization’s best on the pedestal and reward them by showing them off to the rest of Manitoba. All nominees receive invitations to Sport Manitoba’s Sport for Life Gala and are recognized for their achievement over the last year.

Does your organization have:

  • Individual athletes who surpass expectations?

  • Team members who put forward a cooperative effort in their pursuit of common goals to achieve greatness?

  • Skilled and capable officials who devote countless hours to sport development and are respected as advocates for fair play and ethical behaviour?

  • Volunteers who have no limits to the time they commit to sport and whose energy and enthusiasm serves as an inspiration to us all?

If you have answered yes to any of the above, then nominate those individuals for the Sport Manitoba Awards!
