Winnipeg, MB (TM) – Tennis Manitoba wants to get more people off the
couch and on a court in an effort to improve fitness
and promote a healthy lifestyle. The provincial
association is looking to develop additional
community programs and is looking for interested
participants, supporting organizations and
potentially a program coordinator to help make it
all happen.
There is a serious need to get our children more
active. Canada's Physical Activity Guidelines
recommend children engage in 60 minutes of moderate
activity and 30 minutes of vigorous physical
activity every day. With busy parents and less
recreational activity in schools the obesity and
chronic diseases among children will continue to
rise in Manitoba. Tennis Manitoba wants to help make
physical activity a priority and is reaching out to
schools and community centers in an effort to set up
programs that make it easy for kids to get a start
and stay involved in tennis for life.
Tennis is one of the few traditional sports in North
America to grow in the past 5 years, with the
biggest gains occurring with school aged youth.
Schools, community centers and other organizations
interested in introducing tennis to their groups are
encouraged to contact Tennis Manitoba to discuss the
programs that are right for them. Tennis Manitoba is
also looking for financial support from those that
wish to help promote a healthier lifestyle in our
communities.
There is even a potential employment opportunity
with the association for the right individual
interested in helping to develop community programs,
building partnerships, assisting with tournament
management and promoting Tennis Manitoba’s programs.
Please contact Tennis Manitoba for more details.
